Why Aster Mountain Adventures?

We are a small local company, committed to making your trip a great one.  From the moment you contact us, we'll guide you through all the steps to make sure you arrive well prepared to have a great experience.  We like to communicate with you directly, to ensure that you know all of the necessary details, and so that we can help you make the best trip choice for you.

We are offering a unique product - as working geoscientists, we can give you a next-level experience, with extensive knowledge about the natural history, geology and glaciation in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.  We are happy to share our knowledge with you.  We believe in providing custom experiences from start to finish.  Oh, and good food on trips is a must!

For summer 2020 we are offering private guided day hiking and backpacking, as well as rock climbing and mountaineering.  Contact us to ask about our availability!

Aster Mountain Adventures guides hold permits to work in the following areas of the Canadian Rocky Mountains: Banff, Yoho, Jasper and Kootenay National Parks, as well as Kananaskis Country. Our guides are ACMG certified, have Interpretive Guide accreditations and hold valid Wilderness First Aid certificates.

Owner/Guide: Jaime Lynn Hood

Jaime has been playing and working in the mountains since 1990, when she was first introduced to backpacking. Since that time she has built her life around spending time in the mountains pursuing her passions of rock climbing, skiing and general adventuring. When she isn't guiding or planning trips for Aster Mountain Adventures she works in resource conservation and as a contract geoscientist, guides hiking trips for the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation and works as an apprentice ski guide for Selkirk Tangiers Heliskiing and several backcountry ski lodges.

Jaime is a certified ACMG Assistant Hiking Guide and Apprentice Ski Guide.

Owner/Guide: Simon Meis

Simon has spent the last 25 years calling the mountains home, and he is an avid rock climber and backcountry skier.  He's a lot of fun to be around and he has a knack for making people comfortable in all kinds of uncomfortable places! He spends his summers guiding in the mountains, and his winters guiding heli-skiing and backcountry ski touring.  Simon is also an accomplished artist and in his off-time he is often busy drawing the places he loves.

Simon is an ACMG/IFMGA Mountain Guide, so if you'd like to actually walk on some of those glaciers instead of just looking at them or scramble up some of those inviting peaks, Simon will can make that happen.

We do occasionally hire other guides, especially second guides on backpacking trips.  We pick guides that we know will do a good job and that we like to spend time with - so we think you'll like them too!
