It’s only early May, but already it feels like summer in the Bow Valley, with several days in the high 20’s (Celsius!) recently. Snow is long gone from the lower elevations, and it has been a nice change to have a few more options for hikes and runs out on the trails. The spring rock climbing has been fantastic as well!
We’ve finally got some firm dates on backpacking trips for the year, with trips planned for the Jonas Pass-Brazeau Lake Loop, the Banff Highline Traverse, Banff Sawback Traverse, Kootenay Rockwall and Kananaskis Alpine Circuit. We’ve also recently added the Jasper Skyline Traverse to the schedule for mid-September. We are really excited about this addition! Reservations on the Jasper Skyline are notoriously hard to get, and we are thrilled to have gotten a September booking. A good portion of this trail is above treeline, and the colors in September should be spectacular! We’ll have to pack some warmer sleeping bags because the nights might be a bit chilly at that time of the year, but it will be well worth it.
If you book a backpacking trip prior to June 1st, you'll receive a discount of 10% on your entire trip cost!
We are always open to scheduling trips at other times as well, although campsite bookings get more and more difficult to get as we get closer to summer, so contact us soon if our posted dates don’t work for you. Currently our backpacking season is scheduled to start mid-July. However, with the early spring, it is possible that the trails will be opening up early this year, so touch base if you’d like to consider an earlier trip.
On another note - we've been successful getting some commercial reservations for Lake O'Hara. So far, we have spaces available on July 23 and August 1. We are hoping to get a few more dates in August and September. We'll keep you updated on our Facebook page ('like' our page to keep yourself in the loop!).
We’ll be rolling out some blog posts soon on how to get prepared for the hiking season – so stay tuned!
